Like many others my story of recovery started with a spiritual, emotional, and physical bottom, a moment of incomprehensible demoralization. I couldn’t look at anyone in the eye; I couldn’t stand to look at myself in the mirror. I was in so much shame and hopelessness that I stood outside the doors, stalking this 12-step meeting because I was too afraid to go in.
